Finding yourself around Kiev (Kyiv)
Kyiv is the city where the modern and the ancient make wonderful possibilities for historical and aesthetical exploration. However, before you become a visitor to this fantastic city, take your time to figure out at least two points: where you will spend your nights and how you are going to get around the place.
Let us consider choosing a flat. Start by considering your budget and personal preference, you may either choose to stay in a Kiev hotel, or rent an apartment. Count the stars on Kiev hotels to evaluate the comfort you require and the price you can afford.
The Ukrainian capital has a number of five and four star hotels. There are literary tens and tens of less luxurious Kiev accommodation opportunities. A luxury hotel is going to cost you around $400-850 per night, 4 stars will be around $150-$500, three stars will be about $70-300, 2 stars will cost from $50 to 120 and 1 star hotels cost around 25-100 per night.
There exist also several hostels in Kiev for students and young people. In an ordinary hostel you will have modest but fresh accommodation facilities and some sofas or beds in one room.
If you are looking for an opportunity to save some buck, you can rent an apartment. Instead of a small hotel room for about $90-150 you could rent a luxury apartment in the downtown. Inexpensive one-room apartments can be rent for no more than $50. Many companies that allow you to rent such Kyiv apartments may even meet you at the airport. It would be much safer to reserve the apartment at least a couple of days in advance.
If you are pressed for money or would like to have something more extreme, you may try renting a sleeping berth inside a train. There is a train depot not far from the train station
